JERRY SENDS A MESSAGE

Below find a picture showing me being ejected from my boat. I love racing and am so thankful that although injured, I was able to walk away from a near tragic accident. What I would like to communicate to everyone is to be careful! Most of my injuries were to my mouth and teeth now requiring extensive dental rebuilding. I was wearing a decent life jacket and if I had been wearing a helmet, I don't think I would have sustained the injuries to my mouth. I lost my boat and nearly lost my engine and possibly my life.

This sport we are in is fun, but can be hazardous. Be very aware of the status and condition of your equipment that includes your under water hardware, your setup, your safety equipment and surely your hull. Don't fool yourself like I did by thinking everything is OK and I can run on any course.

Maybe your hull is not exactly like mine, but I know of several of you that are running lighter weight, more of a race style hull with modern day power. Don't get lulled into the belief that what happend to me can't happen to you. I was just on a test run and did not think I was very far down the course when a boat cut across the course that sent a roller that sent me into the air. I saw it coming and could not slow down quick enough.

We also need to have better ways to control the boats going in and out of the coves. These folks have no idea what affect their actions place on our equipment and lives. It is us in the boats, therefore I think we need to take some kind of action to save ourselves, our boats, our families and also not injure any spectators. I was not drinking and had only been at the lake for a few hours. Many of you thinking my stuff won't do this and you may think I am crying wolf, but if my warning saves just one of your butts, then I will feel that I have done some good.

Thank you from me and my family to each of you that assisted in getting me back to the houseboat, to the nurse that checked me out, to my friends that rushed me to the hospital and to those that assisted in recovering what was left of my boat and engine.

Good Luck.... Have Fun.... Be safe!
